Folks, I've been obsessing over my tractor purchase for a year, its alot of bread for toys. Need some advice to help go forward. Been looking mostly at Boomer and Kubota since these are the biggest and nearest dealers to me. Here is my situation:-I have 5 acres with a 1/4 mile drive at 12% grade, I currently use a Wheelhorse GT with 42" belly mower with 23" rear tires to mow 2.5 acres unobstructed lawn, which takes 2.5 hours to do with the WH.-Have Front blade for snow and also front snowblower which is pain to put on and only install if we get heavy snow (heavy with the WH=>5" :-)) Blade is better than blower if snow slushy or light fall less than 5". Otherwise have to use blower. In either case The machine is too small for the grade and loses traction with chains and only 2wd no limited slip. I am looking to use Compact with loader and rear blade as replacement.Objectives for New Tractor:-Mow lawn in half the time-easily clear 1/4 mile drive of snow all at once rather have to go out for each 3" increment-Use loader for stone dust, loose dirt movement, mulch, other landscaping chores-Bottom line 70%mowing, 20%loader, 10%snowWhat I'm looking at:-Kubota B2710, L3010-Boomer TC21, TC 29Mower:-Landpride Tunnel 2560 60" 3PHConcerns:-None of my property is flat, about 6%+ grade everywhere, the rear mowers weigh about 550# so is heavier tractor better, you know light tractor with heavy implement would be tail wagging the dog. So would the TC29 or 3010 be better, than the lighter units?-on this size property would a 3Pt mower be a pain versus a belly? If I go with a Belly how can one man push a 550# mower under it even though the wheels rotate it still weighs a ton?-If I buy the tc29 or l3010 size Tractor, when I mow I go about 200 feet to 300 feet in each row most of the time, but sometimes only 100 feet (its not perfectly square). What is better 3pt or belly for these dimensions? Am I going too big.-When I looked at the Boomers the Turf tires on the tc21 had alot less bite than the Turfs on the much larger Tc29, would the more aggresive turf tires on the tc29 make it unnecssary to buy the R4's for snow removal needs?-Which Tractor would be the best for the 1/4 paved drive snow removal?Sorry about rambling on with 10 questions all at once, but that's what I'm thinking about. Here's my $.02--------- If you have a nearly unobstructed lawn, DON'T buy a bellymower. Attachment is a pain in the @ss, and lift height is limited with loader mounts, andmore with turf tires. Turf tires of any size will be useless in any amount of snow. You will hear different, but you won't be happy with them, guaranteed. How about buying the tractor with the R-4's and getting the turfs if you tear up the grass? Many folks get along with the R-4's for mowing. The smaller HP units will probably do OK, but if you can swing it, more is always better, isn't it? Hope you make it "off the pot soon", let us know what you do. ....

I have a 4wd with turfs and not much weight. In the winter I put on a set of custom made chains and just leave them on till Spring. Traction with the chainsis much better than any tire on snow and ice. Since tractors go so slow, chainslast well and don't cut into the tires at all. This combination avoids those lugmarks in soft soil. You are looking at nice tractors....time to bite the bullet! Roger L ....

I gotta agree with Rick. DON'T get a F&%$*#G belly mower. Just think about the corners you you will need to either weed eat or push mow???????? I got the Landpride 2560 I love the thing, BUT get a mower with REAR discharge. They produce a much smoother looking lawn when you dont have all the grass .piled up in rows around your lawn. check out http://www.landpride.com and keepus posted. ....

Bob, I have almost exactly the same situation as you minus the 12% grades. I have used my neighbors B8200 4WD w/ ag tires for snow removal. It isn't bad, but I have gotten it stuck in 12" snows. I think the R4 are the way to go. Use chains when you really need it. A light tractor with a heavy rear mower would definately have the tail wagging the dog. The 29 is 1000# heavier. The 21 only has 16 or 17 PTO HP. Thats starting to get slim for big implements. I can only speculate as to the pain of putting on a mid mower, but I think just driving over it (if it is a substantial mower) would be the way to put it on. I think the other guys may be right about a rear mower, since you don't have any obstructions to get around. I have 30 or 40 to get around and think super steer with mid is the way to go for me. As far as snow goes, the biggest baddest tractor on my block wins the snow removal race hands down. Let us know what you decide, as I sure would like to leave the outhouse also. ....

What's up with the belly mower? I've never used a rear mount mower, so I'm having a hard time understanding advantages besides easy on/off. With a belly mower, I can trim close and around trees and seldom need to push trim. Also, I can monitor how close I am to obstructions by looking down instead of behind me. Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating for a belly mower, I really want to understand the pros/cons of each setup. In fact, I've been looking at a rear mount flail mower, but haven't acted on it because I'm concerned that my trim work might increase as a result. Please help! ....
